BPH Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
The Only Proven Natural Medicines That Help BPH
Natural prostate health is on the increase. More and more men are concerned about natural treatments or methods in which to keep their prostate functioning efficiently. Below are the proven remedies for natural prostate health.
Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens)
Saw Palmetto is probably the most well known herb to treat BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy).
This herb works in the same way as a 5-alpha reductase drug works, that is it prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dyhydrotetosterone).
Saw palmetto appears to shrink the inner epithelium of the prostate and also inhibits certain growth factors within the prostate.
Saw Palmetto also appears to act like an anti-inflammatory.
The studies have concluded that Saw Palmetto gives a mild to moderate decrease in BPH symptoms.
Symptoms of BPH helped by Saw Palmetto include painful urination, urgency, nocturia, frequent urination and hesitancy.
Studies have also concluded that there are less side-effects when using Saw Palmetto than when using conventional prescriptions.
One major benefit is that Saw Palmetto does not cause impotence.
The dose used in these studies to claim Saw Palmetto as a proven natural medicine for BPH was 320mg daily. Natural prostate health can be achieved by using Saw Palmetto. Click on the image to access saw palmetto and pygeum together.

Stinging Nettle Root (Urtica dioica)
Most studies done on BPH with Stinging Nettle have been done in vitro and have produced good results, But, when used within a double blind group, the results were poor.
Stinging Nettle Root is not a proven natural medicine for BPH, natural prostate health may not be achieved by using this remedy.

Pygeum (Prunus africana)
Pygeum has both antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory effects on the prostate.
Also, Pygeum has been shown to inhibit growth factors which will reduce the number of prostate tissue growth. This is an excellent remedy for natural prostate health.
Symptoms helped by Pygeum include:
decreases nocturia by 19%
increases urine flow by 23%
reduces residual urine flow by 24%
These results were calculated using a dose of 75-200mg per day of Pygeum with 14% triterpenes. This herb has been shown to be well tolerated with only few cases of gastric upset occurring. To ease your symptoms see

Beta-sitosterol
Beta-sitosterol is found naturally in many foods and herbs. This compound is also used in the treatment of cholesterol in which it is blended into spreads such as margarine.
Beta-sitosterol improves urinary flow and decreases the amount of urine left in the bladder after emptying. This appears to be an effective remedy for natural prostate health.
These results were found when taking a dose of beta-sitosterol 60-130mg per day. Click on the bottle to your right for more information on this product.

Lycopene, Vitamin E and Red Clover
These 3 substances have had preliminary studies done in relation to Benign prostatic hypertrophy but as yet are not recommended for treatment as most of the studies are done in laboratories as opposed to clinical trials.
Rye grass pollen (Secale cereale)
This plant naturally contains beta-sterols.
Rye grass improves the frequency, nocturia, urgency, urine flow rate, dribbling and pain in men with benign prostatic hypertrophy.
These effects were seen when a particular product was used at a dose of 126mg three times daily for 12 weeks.

Garlic
Early evidence shows that Garlic may help with certain symptoms such as improving urinary flow and decreasing frequency associated with benign prostatic hpyertrophy. Garlic can be easily added to the diet for natural prostate health.

Low Fat Diet
According to a review in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, a diet low in fat and red meat and high in fruits and vegetables is beneficial in preventing and treating prostate cancer.
In an evidence based review conducted by Robert W.-L. Ma and K. Chapman, evidence showed that a diet low in red meat but high in fruits and vegetables may help prevent prostate cancer. More specifically the foods recommended are tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, green tea, and vitamins including Vitamin E and selenium.
A diet high in meat, dairy and fat seemed to correspond with those more susceptible to prostate cancer.
