Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH)

Proven Natural Medicines That Help BPH

Benign prostatic hypertophy (BPH) is increasingly common in men over the age of 60. The prostate is normally the size of a walnut that produces seminal fluid. Due to a number of factors, after the age of 50, the prostate starts to increase in the number of cells which increases the size.

BPH is as it states, a benign condition and vary rarely develops into a cancerous condition.

Seen below in a cross section of the pelvis, the cross indicates that the prostate is 3x the size of a normal gland.

Causes of Benign Prostatic Hypertrophic

1. A decrease in testosterone levels

2. An increase in oestrogen cells

As men age, their hormone levels change, just as women's do when they reach menopause. Just as the testosterone levels decrease, there is an increase in oestrogen. The increased levels in oestrogen also increases the number of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) receptors. It is the DHT that makes the prostate proliferate. Oestrogen also inhibits the breakdownof DHT so the prostate continues to increase in size.

The enlarged prostate then blocks the urethra (the tube that drains urine from the bladder) which causes a number of symptoms.
