5 Steps To Clear Skin
1. Food and Nutrition for Acne
Simple carbohydrates such as white bread and refined products, turn into sugar and this appears to worsen the disorder.
I'm not saying it causes pimples (DON'T WORRY YOU CAN STILL HAVE SOME CHOCOLATE!) it just wont help your situation if you already have them.
Try and add some complex carbohydrates, into your diet, it's not hard, for example; instead of white bread, only have wholemeal or multigrain. This will also help your bowel, which I'll explain in more detail down the track.
Teen-acne sufferers have been shown to have low zinc levels.
Zinc aids our immune system and wound healing, two very important factors in this skin disorder. Zinc can be used internally as well as on the skin.
Margarite Cosmetics Zinc Cream 1Oz
is a great product to use as it is tinted so you can apply it any time and if you wear make-up, just apply your make-up on top.
2. Clear The Bowel
A Clear bowel = A Clear Skin
Imagine filling an old pantyhose with scraps of vegetable peel, meat offcuts, and wholegrains. Leave it there for a week, then imagine what it would look like.
If you can't use your imagination, then I'll tell you what it would look like.
It would be smelly and it would be leaking some sort of vile disgusting fluid.
Now imagine that the pantyhose is your bowel. Urrghh! Awful thought isn't it.
Well, the thought isn't far off the truth.
You see, what sits in your bowel for too long starts to produce chemicals, namely methane.
Now the methane can be passed out as gas, BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THAT GOOEY FLUID?
That gooey fluid has to be expelled and if you're not going to pass it out in the toilet, then it has to pass out through another eliminative organ.
YOU GUESSED IT, THE SKIN
As I mentioned before, toxins are expelled through the skin and can worsen acne.
SOLUTION......Get your bowels moving so the body doesn't have time to reabsorb those nasty toxins.
To get your bowel moving is easy.....just eat more fruit, vegetables and high fibre foods, or a fibre supplement and get exercising.
BUT BEFORE YOU START EATING MORE FIBRE, YOU MUST INCREASE YOUR WATER INTAKE ACCORDINGLY.
|To work out how much water you need, just measure your weight.
You need 30ml of water per kilo of body weight. So if you are 70kgs = 2100ml water.
The water is NEEDED to move the bolus of waste through your bowel so you dont become constipated.
Vitamins A, C, E and Zinc are all antioxidants which help devour those free radicals that our body 'doesn't need'.
Free radicals cause tissue damage which will in turn, worsen the pimples that are already there.
For free food sources of antioxidants such as Vitamins,
Or if you don't want to add anything to your diet,
Antioxidant Superfood (90 vCaps) Antioxidant Blend
is a product packed with antioxidants from food sources such as the popular Mangosteen fruit.
Antioxidants help prevent scarring so you can look in the mirror in years to come and your acne will only be a bad memory.
4. Chemicals and Hormones
Chemicals that can contribute to Oily Skin
Whilst doing my research, I came across a book that explains everything that I am trying to explain to you here, ONLY BETTER! Click Here! to access this book that will no longer have you hiding your face. And as I promised, no magical pills involved!
Strangely enough, some of the chemicals found in the treatments are the same ones that can inadvertantly contribute to acne.
To explain this, I have to explain the link between between hormones and acne.
Hormones such as DHEAS and testosterone play a big part in controlling the sebum production in our skin.
Is it no wonder that teenagers have problems with acne when their hormones are 'out of control'?
To accentuate this theory, just look at the skin of people that have been using anabolic steroids, (Steroids are hormones)they are covered in acne.
Our androgens (male hormones) cause enlargement of our sebaceous glands and an increase in sebum (oil) production.
Now if you are wondering why I am discussing hormones under the chemical section then read on....
Hormones can be affected by chemicals that we are in touch with every day.
There are chemicals out there in products that have been proven to be a disturbance with our own hormone levels (although some chemical funded studies will dispute this).
Xenohormones need to be avoided, for more information on this topic
SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) is a known skin irritant and yet is found in most soaps, shampoos and cleansers. Now that is one good reason to switch to organic skin care products but read on....
SLS actually mimicks oestrogen and so it competes with our oestrogen receptor sites. This then causes EXTREME HORMONAL CHAOS.
For women, this can then lead to menstrual and fertility problems due to the fact that the body is confused, the body doesn't know whether to produce more hormones or not due to the SLS control.
For men, the 'fake' extra oestrogen can then lead to a host of extra problems, one of them unfortunately a decrease in sperm count.
Also, the oestrogen mimmicker SLS can cause worsening of acne because of the disruption to hormones.
This is another chemical that is found in moisturisers, cleansers, and acne cremes.
This is also known to mimick our own oestrogen therefore causing the hormonal disturbance that we desperately don't want.
ALL THE MORE REASON TO SWITCH TO ORGANIC SKIN CARE
5. Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicines I Prescribe for The Skin
I have found a formula of liquid herbals that have had terrific results.
This complex of herbs works a treat for adults as well as teenagers because of the 'progesterone stimulating' Chaste Tree.
The Echinacea works as an antibacterial and the Cleavers is known as a 'blood cleanser' and aides as an antioxidant. This is also true for the Burdock and Yellow Dock.
The Calendula is added for it's general healing properties. The blood cleansing formula shown above works just the same as the mixture I have mentioned. You can use the liquid or capsules seen in
Dr. Christopher's Blood Stream Formula 100Caps
either way, your skin will have impurities removed and people are going to comment on how nice your skin looks.
|I do have to warn you however, that when using this formula, you have to expect the condition to worsen before it gets better.
This is known as a healing crisis and is perfectly normal in natural medicine.
After 2-3 weeks you will notice the acne starting to disappear. You should only have to use this formula for approximately 2-3 months.
Should you use face creams for acne?
Normally I wouldn't prescribe any cremes to go on the skin due to the lack of acne cremes that don't have those nasty chemicals that I mentioned earlier. Zinc is probably the only topical treatment that I would suggest.
Proactiv for example has some terrific marketing and shows amazing results BUT, it does contain some nasties in the ingredients list.
Due to the chemical make-up of this product, and the bigger effect it can have on our body, I cannot reccomend it.
Please, if you have found a topical product that is chemical free and helps with pimples,
please let me know
Latest Clinical Trials
Unfortunately the mixture of herbs I mentioned earlier, has not been tested for acne.
Even as single herbs they have not been tested for their effect on pimples.
So, I have not given this a thumbs down because it hasn't been proven not to work....does that makes sense?
Zinc has been proven to help with pimples. Daily application of zinc will reduce the size and inflammation of the pimple so that your skin doesn't look red and angry.
In a study done in 1978, results showed significant improvement in acne compared to placebo, when 0.6g of zinc daily was taken orally. Liquid zinc can be found in
Floradix Liquid Calcium-Magnesium w/ Zinc
or for topical treatment of pimples use

Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid and is seen in facial peeling lotions and creams.
At 70% glycolic acid, it has been shown to greatly improve acne and pimple scars when used daily. At this percentage however you may find that there is substantial skin peeling.
For those people that are sensitive to peeling, a 15% glycolic acid has still be shown to benefit the skin disorder. For a clearer blemish free skin, click on the image below.
Physicians Complex Glycolic Acid Facial Cleanser
not only cleanses your face with glycolic acid but it also contains aloe vera which heals the skin and makes it less drying.
Or if you are looking for a professional glycolic acid peel, then click on the image to your right... Imagine having a professional face peel in the privacy of your own home and how nice your new skin is going to feel.

Tea Tree Oil
Used topically, tea tree oil 5% has been shown to as affective as benzoyl peroxide products such as Oxy-5.
Tea tree oil is also less irritating on the skin than benzoyl peroxide. Suggested brand is
Tea Tree Oil, 100% Pure Australian
Use Tea tree oil if you want your skin to look less irritated. The antibacterial effect reduces more pimples from forming. A great result all round.

As I was researching acne and natural medicine treatments I was quite surprised at the lack of clinical trials. I would have thought there would have been more research into this sometimes socially crippling disorder.
In summation, I have to say that maybe because of the diversity of people with acne, diet, lifestyle, family income etc, there are many different ways to treat acne.
As I have mentioned before and will many times again....everybody is different.
